Corruption is truly start with the lack of basic need

After reading one of our friend opinion about corruption in Cambodia to whether the corruption is involved by lack of basic needs or not, I think sometime corruption is truly start with the lack of basic needs for some people in a country or a society. However, when it is easy to commit, it is no longer the lack of basic needs that caused the corruption. It is the creed and cheat to the society from the untouchable people. It is a selfish act of cheating. In addition, corruption can be a form of tradition. For example, the leaders or politicians in Cambodia have been corrupted more or less. In every level of privileged people such as those who hold higher power for centuries have done as a way of life.

The corruption in Cambodian's society has become an old saying, " Toch si toch",(small eats small). This immoral act has become Cambodian's tradition. The Cambodian's society seems to except that unfair cheated act of the powerful individual.

Furthermore, it's so powerless because Cambodian have never had a law to prosecute the corrupted powerful individual or the law has never been enforced.

The corruption is an unfair advantage which classified as the crime of stealing our society resources, and it has to be stopped. There are four ways to stop the corruption. First, Cambodian have to be enriched with the democracy society, especially, freedom of free speech. Second, the law to prosecute corruption must be established, enforced and severly punished. Third, we must break the tradition by aware that corruption is unfair and immoral responsibility of the citizen.

After all, it sounds to be very extreme difficult to stop once it started(addiction). Perhaps it is one of the oldest professionals on this planet. It just likes my medical doctor used to tell me that if I know how to eliminate stress so let him know.

i am a foreigner living and working in cambodia now for2 years. the cambodian people are wonderful. however the rampant level of corruption by officials, police, tax inspectors because i am a barang has made me decide to leave as i am being victimised on an almost daily basis. the longer the corruption goes on the more barang will leave. myself and many people i know have employed local people and raised much money for charities and i am very sad that as it is in many parts of the world that it is always the ones in power that tread over the ones without power. good luck to the many lovely khmer people i have known.
